About

A small studio that ships.

MA Dev is a web development and digital marketing practice for startups and small businesses. We build the site, then do the work that makes people find it.

A concrete structure photographed against a flat sky

Most small business websites fail in the same three ways.

They are slow, because they were assembled from a theme and a stack of plugins. They are invisible, because nobody did the technical work that lets search engines understand them. And they are impossible to update, so they go stale within a year of launch.

Those three problems compound. A slow site ranks worse, a site that ranks worse gets less traffic, and a site nobody can update never gets the content that would fix it. We take all three on at once, which is why we do development and marketing in the same place rather than handing you between two agencies who blame each other.

How we work

Four things we will not bend on.

Performance is a constraint, not a phase

Every asset, font and third-party script justifies its weight before it ships. It is far cheaper than optimising a finished site, and it is the only way the result actually stays fast.

No invented numbers

We do not publish results we cannot evidence, and we do not dress concept work up as client work. If a case study carries a metric, it came from an analytics account we can show you.

Search goes in at build time

Structured data, crawlability and Google Business Profile are part of the build, not an upsell afterwards. Retrofitting search onto a finished site always costs more than doing it once.

You own everything

Your domain, your hosting, your analytics, your code. No proprietary builder you cannot leave, and no hostage situation if you decide to work with someone else.

Before we design anything

The five questions.

Our whole process is answering these in order. If we cannot answer them, a new website is an expensive way to keep the same problem.

01

Who is this actually for?

Before any design work, we pin down who buys from you and what they need to see to trust you. Most underperforming sites are well built for nobody in particular.

02

What does the site need to do?

Book appointments, take orders, generate calls, replace a spreadsheet. We scope against the outcome, which is also what tells us what to leave out.

03

How fast can it be?

Performance is a design constraint here, not a cleanup task. Every asset, font and third-party script has to justify its weight before it ships.

04

Can people find it?

Technical SEO, structured data and Google Business Profile go in at build time. Retrofitting search onto a finished site always costs more.

05

What is it earning?

Analytics and conversion tracking wired up properly, so the reporting shows revenue rather than a chart of traffic that means nothing on its own.
